Experiencing God

My husband Pete was the kind of man that kept his calm through trials. . . he was a very patient person. His heart was seen in the way he cared more about others than himself. Take for instance when he prayed, I asked him , " Pete, do you pray for yourself?" His response was that so many others were praying for him so he thought he should be praying for others. Pete came to know God better during his illness. In fact, rather than getting bitter with God about his illness, Pete got closer to God, accepting Jesus' eternal gift. This quiet man also possessed amazing inner strength and courage. In one of life's irony's during his first battle with cancer he prayed to God, I don't want my kids to ever have cancer--give it to me instead of them, he had four different battles with cancer and we have four kids.

Just to let you know that I have had Internet problems for a month, I would try to read blogs and the Internet would lose connection. Friday I was able to get a new Internet modem, and I am up and running again. I have missed you all.

I've really missed you too Marla.

That's an amazing story about your husband. His faith is an inspiration. I think it would be so easy to blame God for the illness, not grow closer towards him. I'm sure he has a very special in heaven now. I do believe that Christians that walk a closer walk with the Lord in their worldly lives have a closer walk with him in their eternal ones. That's something to be thankful for. :)

Hmmmmm, Marla... this made me think... how would you feel about being introduced to somebody ?

He is a very nice man, divorced for 8 years now, intelligent, was a pastor fro ten years and now is a junbior high school teacher...
I think close to your age (57) - but he was more into discussing God/the bible than I am and so we weren't a good fit....

And his name is Pete...

If you are, e-mail me, okay ? and I'll e-mail him and maybe see if you two would like to talk or give him your blog address...

Just as with Daniel and Joseph, Pete wisely kept his focus on God. Ditto LL Cool Joe, those that "walk a closer walk with the Lord in their worldly lives have a closer walk with him in their eternal ones."

We could all learn a lot from Pete. A patient person with a heart for God is a rare find. He was a strong man and his courage is admirable. He is in a beautiful place; I can feel it.

PS - It's good to have you back!! :)

I am so glad you are back and connected as you sounded kind of sad. While I am not a religious person, I do think that prayer has power we do not understand.

Wow, matchmaking...you must keep us posted.

I've missed you also Marla and am glad to see you back and posting.

That was a lovely story about Pete. Bless his heart to have not lost his faith when he became ill.

Loving your spouse goes beyond when they leave here. They are just on the other side of the veil waiting. I enjoy your stories about Pete and your family. The love you have for him shows.

Love and hugs ~ FlowerLady

Glad to have you back.
You have to have a lot of good memories of Pete. Best to dwell on the good times than the bad.

We talked to your Mom a minute last week. She was serving with the other Methodist ladies at Jerry's aunt's funeral in Oakland.
She looks great.

Bless you, Marla. This is a wonderful bit about Pete. That is just soooooo nice that he thought of others and had faith to know that the others' prayers about him would be sufficient and answered.
I have to admit that I pray for myself sometimes. I don't think other people are praying for me like they did for Pete.
Now, when I was having all my health problems, I could tell that they were praying for me. I could just tell. And I didn't do a lot of praying for me then. Maybe that's the way things work??

Thank you for reading my little poem. I have a lot of fun writing them, mostly it is just one a week that goes on my blog. That is for the 'One Single Impression' where we all have a prompt word.
Like my disclaimer at the bottom, I know I'm not very good but I have fun. I can't draw (talent problem) so I feel painting with words is next best.
And over there, I have a whole set of new people to interface with. If you read some of the comments you noticed. Generally the run between 11 and 22. Sort of like you get from your blog.
:-)

It sounds like you married an angel....The Lord will take good care of him and you were lucky enough to be married to him.....You should be very grateful. (And I know that you are.)

Happy Mothers Day, Marla...

So glad you're back!

That is the most courageous and unselfish prayer I have ever heard! What a great heart Pete had for his kids.
